CLEMSON — Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney met with media following Wednesday’s practice behind the Allen Reeves Football Complex. The Tigers hit the road on Saturday, as they visit North Carolina (noon, ESPN) at Kenan Stadium in Chapel, N.C.
Swinney was asked several questions on Wednesday, from redshirting the freshmen, injuries, North Carolina’s red zone defense, his own red zone defense, defensive end Jahiem Lawson and more.
Below are a few of the things to come out of the media session.
–Swinney was asked about the coaches’ plans regarding some of the freshmen and what the plans might be for them this year. He said that is something he and the coaches will get together on sometime next week to go over.
–Swinney was asked whether offensive linemen Tristin Leigh and Collin Sadler were two of the players he was talking about when he said several guys would not have been able to play if the Tigers played last week. Swinney said, “I am not gonna respond to that.”
–Clemson has allowed 7 TDs in 11 red zone attempts by its opponents. This was an area of concern for Swinney coming into the season and one of the seasons he went and brought Tom Allen in to be the new defensive coordinator. “It’s a huge disappointment,” Swinney said. “It goes back to the same thing. Guys doing their job. Keeping their eyes on the right things… We have a couple guys that are not on the same page up front. We’re not fitting things up properly, not communicating properly, and it just can’t happen.”
–Swinney was also asked about quarterback Cade Klubnik and how he has looked in read plays. “There are some good and some bad… He’s had some really good ones. He has had some bad ones that he made bad decisions. So, he’s inconsistent. We have been inconsistent getting 11 guys on the same page.”
