Swinney: ‘Nobody Deserves It More’

Even through some of the early-season struggles, there is one player on the Clemson offense who has been a model of consistency.

Running back Adam Randall has been flat-out productive through the Tigers’ first five games. The converted wideout is averaging 5.7 yards per carry and has scored six total touchdowns.

Randall has scored at least one touchdown in each game to this point, and in doing so, he has become the first Clemson player to score a touchdown in each of the first five games of a season since Travis Etienne in 2018.

“Dynamic, that is what we thought he’d be,” head coach Dabo Swinney said during his weekly press conference on Tuesday. “I’d say he has been maybe even better than what we had hoped for.”

Four times this season, Randall has went over the century mark in all-purpose yards, including Saturday’s 38-10 win over North Carolina that saw him catch two touchdown passes out of the backfield. That was the first time a Tigers’ running back caught two touchdowns in a game since Etienne did it in 2019.

“He’s been good every game,” Swinney added. “He’s had a couple of plays here and there, but he’s given us a chance every single game.”

Through five games, Randall leads the team with 373 rushing yards. His 154 receiving yards are the third-highest. Add in that he’s averaging more than 25 yards per kickoff return, and the former receiver has been exactly what the Tigers have needed in the backfield.

“He has played with a ton of passion, a ton of toughness, a ton of heart, and he’s dynamic,” Swinney said. “He is making plays in all areas. Returning, rushing, he is giving us an opportunity to win. Nobody deserves it more.”
