Stephiylan Green has been one of the most disruptive players along the Clemson defensive front this season.
After registering a sack in the runaway win over North Carolina on Saturday, Green has now recorded one in each of the past two games.
“I’m happy, I’m happy,” Green said. “I make sacks in practice, and I envision it every game, so when the results show up, it just makes me really happy. To know that I can really do it. Just put in the work every day, go to practice every day, and the results will show up.”
However, Green was also flagged for roughing the passer on what was, at best, a very questionable call. Knowing that the quarterbacks in today’s game are getting so much more protection than they have in the past, makes it that much more difficult on defensive linemen like himself.
“I don’t know what to really do about that and that type of thing. Usually when I make the tackle, my eyes close anyway,” Green said, smiling.
Green was a big get for the Tigers in the 2023 recruiting class. The former four-star talent was credited with 68 tackles during his senior campaign, with 25 of those being tackles for loss.
Green brought that tenacity with him to Clemson. After redshirting in 2023, he had a breakout season last year, and was a second-team freshman All-American per The Atlantic. Green finished with 17 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack.
He’s been even better this season. He’s already got 13 tackles to go along with the two sacks.
And Green is determined to keep playing his brand of football, even if it gets him flagged from time to time.
“I don’t know how to really get away from that call, for real,” Green said. “We came out with the win, so it really doesn’t matter.”
