Clemson defensive tackle Peter Woods saw a dream come true when he scored a big man touchdown in Saturday’s 41-10 win at Boston College.
The Tigers extended their lead to two touchdowns when Woods powered through the right side of the offensive line for a 2-yard score with 13:05 to play in the second quarter.
Woods’ TD gave the Tigers a 17-3 lead at the time. The junior lined up in Clemson’s power set as the tailback, as he easily scored to cap a 75-yard, eight-play drive.
“It felt good to get in the end zone,” Woods said after the game. “That’s a big guy’s dream.”
It marked the first career rushing touchdown for Woods, who became the first Clemson defensive lineman to score a rushing touchdown since Nyles Pinckney’s 1-yard touchdown run at Georgia Tech in 2020.
“It felt good, man, to just score the ball,” Woods said. “I’ve got a job obviously on offense, and I just want to be the best at my job. So, that’s really what was going through my mind. Obviously ball security and stuff like that, that you don’t really work on as a defensive lineman, was probably what was going through my head most of the time.”
The TD was Woods’ second carry of the game, as he earlier converted on a fourth-and-1 play in the first quarter. He is now 3-for-3 on converting fourth downs via rush this season and 4-for-4 on reaching the line to gain on his four carries.
Woods’ rushing touchdown was scored on a play with nine offensive linemen and a quarterback in front of the 310-pound Woods. The 11-man unit featured a combined listed weight of 3,340 pounds, as the second-lightest player on the unit behind the 210-pound Cade Klubnik was 295-pound Chapman Pendergrass.
Does Clemson have a name for the running package with Woods? Is it called the ‘Tiger Push’?
“I don’t think it’s called the ‘Tiger Push.’ It’s just more like, ‘Peter, get on the field,’” Woods said, laughing.
