For the second consecutive game, Clemson jumped on an opponent early.
The Tigers put up 34 points in the first half in the 41-10 route of Boston College on Saturday. This comes one week after scoring 35 first-half points against North Carolina last week.
The result has been back-to-back wins for the first time this season, and after the disappointing 1-3 start, quarterback Cade Klubnik is just happy to see his teammates having fun again.
“We are playing with a lot of confidence right now,” quarterback Cade Klubnik said after the win. “It is just fun to see the guys playing well. Excited to continue to build on it.”
Klubnik was money in that first half, completing 18-of-23 for 244 yards, with one interception. He hit on 12 straight at one point. And the Tigers were efficient. The offense ran 40 plays over the first two quarters, never punted over that span, and only faced five third downs. They converted three of them.
“It just shows us the power of starting fast,” Klubnik added. “Just guys doing their job and being efficient on first and second downs. We didn’t have many third downs, which is great. Obviously, there is stuff that we will want to get better at. There are a few plays that I want back. But that is any game.”
However, as well as Klubnik played, the biggest storyline was the senior leaving after suffering an injury late in the third quarter. Dabo Swinney termed it a sprained ankle during his weekly teleconference on Sunday, but Klubnik insists he could have returned had he needed to.
“I could have gone back in the game and kind of pushed it,” Klubnik said. “Definitely could have.”
With SMU coming to town this weekend, the Tigers are going to need their starting quarterback. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.
