Swinney Asked if He’s Happy with Vizzina

During his weekly radio show Monday night, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was asked if he’s happy with what he’s seen so far at backup quarterback with Christopher Vizzina.

“Yeah. Oh yeah. We just need to get more opportunity for him,” Swinney said.

Vizzina has played in three games this season, completing 7-of-14 passes for 37 yards with one interception. He has also rushed for 21 yards on seven carries across the three contests in which he’s appeared.

The redshirt sophomore made his 2025 season debut vs. Troy on Sept. 6, and then completed 6-of-11 passes for 39 yards and rushed twice for 2 yards at North Carolina on Oct. 4.

Vizzina then played in three possessions during last Saturday’s 41-10 win at Boston College after starting quarterback Cade Klubnik left the contest late in the third quarter due to an ankle injury, with the Tigers leading 34-10 at the time Vizzina came in.

Against BC, Vizzina went 1-of-3 passing for -2 yards with an interception. He also rushed four times for 19 yards and finished the game by leading the Tigers on a fourth quarter touchdown drive.

“He did some good stuff in the North Carolina game, and some other things, too,” Swinney said. “Just getting him on tape so we can coach him and just get some real live game – he just hasn’t had a lot.

“We didn’t have to do a whole lot with him the other night [at Boston College]. By the time he went in the game, we really just kind of ran it down there on that last touchdown drive.”

Before enrolling at Clemson in January 2023, Vizzina was ranked among the nation’s top prospects in the 2023 recruiting class. The high four-star had more than 30 offers, including from some of the best football programs in the country.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder entered this season having completed 19-of-34 passes for 190 yards and having rushed 13 times for 68 yards and a touchdown over 94 career snaps in nine games from 2023-24.

Swinney added that he likes what he’s seen from Vizzina in practice this season as well.

“What I’ve seen in practice, he’s doing a good job,” Swinney said. “But I am excited he’s been able to get a little experience, because that’s just going to help him.”
