Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney held his weekly press conference on Tuesday ahead of Saturday’s game vs. Duke at Memorial Stadium.
Swinney gave the latest on starting quarterback Cade Klubnik, who, of course, did not play in the Tigers’ most recent game – the 35-24 loss to SMU on Oct. 18 — snapping his 34-game starting streak.
The senior signal caller sprained an ankle late in the third quarter of the win at Boston College on Oct. 11, an injury that does not require surgery.
After being unable to practice all of the week leading up to the SMU game, Klubnik still took the field during pregame and tried to give it a go. However, after about five minutes of warm-ups, it became clear that it just wasn’t meant to be.
During his Tuesday press conference ahead of the Duke game, Swinney was asked if Klubnik practiced on Monday.
“He did,” Swinney said.
Swinney was later asked if Klubnik was a full participant or a limited participant in practice.
“He did everything we asked him to do last night,” Swinney said.
Over the first six games this season, Klubnik completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 1,530 yards and 11 touchdown passes with five interceptions, while also rushing 104 yards and two more scores.
Following this past weekend’s open date, the Tigers (3-4, 2-3 ACC) return to the field on Saturday to host Duke at Death Valley (noon, ACC Network).
