Swinney’s Wednesday Practice Report

CLEMSON — Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney spoke to the media following Wednesday’s practice at the Poe Indoor Practice Facility.

Swinney’s Wednesday Practice Report

–Swinney was asked if there were any updates on injured quarterback Cade Klubnik, who injured his right ankle at Boston College on Oct. 11. Swinney was asked how much Klubnik has been able to practice the last two nights. “A good amount,” Swinney said. “He’s getting better each day. I’m proud of him. Again, we’ll put out a report tomorrow night. But he’s had a good week.”

–If Klubnik is unable to go on Saturday, the Tigers will turn to backup Christopher Vizzina for a second straight game to run the offense. Swinney said Vizzina and Klubnik are sharing first-team reps while Klubnik tries to work himself back. “Our first two quarterbacks, they get the same reps,” he said. “We got two groups and sometimes we will interchange guys, accordingly. Get some crossovers with the ones and twos.”

–Duke coach Manny Diaz is one of the more respected defensive minds in college football. Swinney was asked about how the Blue Devils try to disguise their defense and move people around and try to keep the quarterback guessing. “Honestly, they are very similar to what we do. Very similar,” Swinney said. “There is a lot of carry over. They do a lot of similar things that we do from a disguise standpoint. They do a nice job with it.”

–It was mentioned that the Tigers never got to some of the things they wanted to get back to against SMU on Oct. 18. Swinney was asked about that and if that is a feel thing as an offensive coordinator. “There were also several things there that we just did not execute well,” Swinney said. “Again, it starts with the short yardages. We had a couple of short yardages and then we had a blitz pick up that kind of put us in a bind. We have to make they plays that are there, and that leads to more.”
