South Carolina Reportedly Fires Another Assistant Coach

South Carolina has reportedly parted ways with this assistant coach.

The Gamecocks have fired offensive coordinator Mike Shula, per multiple reports.

The news comes a day after South Carolina (3-6, 1-6 SEC) managed only 230 total yards and scored just two touchdowns in a 30-14 loss at Ole Miss on Saturday.

South Carolina is currently averaging just 19.7 points per game (119th in FBS) and 294.1 total yards per game (131st in FBS). The Gamecocks have allowed 34 sacks – in the country, only Auburn (37) has allowed more.

Shula was in his first season as South Carolina’s offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach. He was officially promoted to the post on Dec. 17, 2024.

Shula joined the Gamecocks’ staff as an offensive analyst on March 18, 2024. He was named senior offensive assistant coach prior to the start of the 2024 fall camp and worked with the Gamecocks’ quarterbacks.

Shula’s previous college experience came at Alabama, where he was the starting quarterback from 1984-86 and later served as the school’s head coach from 2003-06. Before joining South Carolina, he served as the senior offensive assistant for the Buffalo Bills for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

South Carolina has an open date this upcoming weekend before traveling to play at Texas A&M on Saturday, Nov. 15.

Shula’s firing comes after South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer fired offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley back on Oct. 12.
