Could Swinney Be Linked to SEC Opening?

CLEMSON — The Clemson Insider has learned more about possible changes on the horizon for the Clemson football program following the disappointing 2025 season.

As we reported on Sunday, major changes are coming to Clemson football, some of which may be surprising.

Over the weekend, TCI was able to confirm some information pertaining to head football coach Dabo Swinney. Here is what we have gathered.

As you know, Auburn dismissed Hugh Freeze as head coach on Sunday. TCI was told by a source on Saturday that if the Auburn job became open to “watch out.” The same source also indicated that there is another southern school that is also worth keeping an eye on with Swinney. That school currently does not have an opening for a head coach.

Keep in mind, there is some tension going on between Swinney and the school’s administration. TCI knows there are several things Swinney is being asked to change within his program, and we can also tell you the head coach is not fully on board with all of those requests.

One source told TCI that at least one BOT member is not happy with the current direction of the program. “Something has to change. This is not acceptable,” is what TCI was told.

While we do not know that Swinney is an official candidate for the opening at Auburn, we can tell you that our sources have indicated that Auburn would be a perfect landing spot for Swinney if he decides he wants a fresh start elsewhere. Although it may be a good landing spot we know that Swinney has turned down multiple SEC jobs in the past.

TCI is still gathering more information and will pass that along as we learn more.
