Swinney Updates Progress of Redshirt Freshman Safety

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney believes the future is bright for this young defensive back.

During his Tuesday press conference, Swinney updated the progress of redshirt freshman safety Noah Dixon.

“Noah’s getting better,” Swinney said. “I think Noah’s got a chance. He’s got a chance to be a good player around here.”

Dixon has played in two games thus far this season. The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder posted one tackle while playing 10 defensive snaps in his season debut at North Carolina on Oct. 4, then played on special teams at Boston College on Oct. 11.

“I think he’s going to start on maybe a couple special teams this week,” Swinney said of Saturday’s game vs. Florida State at Memorial Stadium (7 p.m., ACC Network).

Swinney says Dixon — who joined Clemson in its 2024 recruiting class as a four-star prospect according to multiple services — is still building up to being a contributor for the Tigers on defense.

“He missed a lot of time, but he is a guy that I think is still not fully confident in everything,” Swinney said. “But I do think he’s a guy that’s going to end up being a good player here.”

Last season, Dixon played six defensive snaps over two games while redshirting.

AnAll-Region 4A selection as a junior and senior at Troup County High School (LaGrange, Ga.), Dixon was the Region 4A Athlete of the Year as a senior. He played on both sides of the ball at the prep level and finished his career with 44 receptions for 843 yards (an impressive 19.2 yards per catch) and 12 receiving touchdowns, as well as 99 career tackles.
