CLEMSON — Clemson is doing what it is supposed to do in the first half, making it look rather easy against FCS foe Furman.
The Tigers have taken a 31-3 lead into the break in what will be the final home contest of the season.
Defense Mostly Playing Well
Outside of one coverage bust, the Clemson defense has played fairly well. The Tigers have limited the Paladins to just 114 yards of offense and only 26 rushing yards. Furman is averaging just 3.3 yards per play and has only picked up six first downs.
Tigers Can’t Even Run It Consistently Against FCS Competition
If there ever was a game in which Clemson should be able to run it at will, it was this one. However, that just hasn’t been the case.
The Tigers have four runs that went more than 10 yards, with two of those coming very late in the half, but outside of that, there hasn’t been a lot to cheer about as far as the running game. Clemson has rushed for just 77 yards across the first two quarters.
On a 4th and 1 play midway through the second quarter, the offensive line could not even give Davidson enough room to pick up the yard. Same thing on a 3rd and 1 later in the quarter.
Tyler Brown Sighting
After barely playing in the past two games, wideout Tyler Brown was involved early in this one, taking a pitch on a reverse 21 yards for a touchdown. It is Brown’s first score of the season. The redshirt sophomore has seen a lot of time in the first half.
Injury Update
Olsen Patt-Henry left early on after catching a 12-yard pass from Cade Klubnik on the Tigers’ first touchdown drive of the game. Patt-Henry went straight to the injury tent after the catch and when he came out of it he was on crutches. The last thing you want in these types of games is to lose a starter to an injury and that is exactly what has happened.
Klubnik was seen limping after a late first-quarter sack on third down. The senior has been dealing not only with the high ankle sprain but also an injured quad. On the next possession, Klubnik connected with Antinio Williams for a 35-yard touchdown strike. After one play on the next drive, Klubnik’s day was done with 12:1t left in the second quarter, as backup Chris Vizzina took over.
