Dabo Swinney delivered some unfortunate news during his weekly press conference on Tuesday.
Coming off his breakout performance against Furman over the weekend, true freshman quarterback Chris Denson suffered an injury in practice on Monday while simulating South Carolina’s Lanorris Sellers.
“Unfortunately, he got his foot stepped on (Monday) on the scout team and wasn’t able to finish,” Swinney said. “He was over there wearing No. 16 for them.”
The severity of the injury is not yet known.
“I don’t really know how bad it is,” Swinney added. “I just know he wasn’t able to finish practice.”
Denson is coming off the most extensive action of his young career. The left-handed signal caller rushed for more than 100 yards in the blowout win over the Paladins, while completing 4-of-4 pass attempts for 22 yards. He also registered the first two touchdowns of his career, one rushing and one passing.
When Swinney was asked whether or not Denson could have a role in the rivalry matchup against South Carolina on Saturday, assuming he was healthy enough to play, the head coach chose to keep that information close to the vest.
“You think I would answer that?” Swinney joked.
