Does Klubnik Plan to Play in Clemson’s Bowl Game?

With last Saturday’s 45-10 win over Furman, Clemson improved to 6-5 on the season and became bowl eligible for a 27th consecutive season.

So, when the bowl game comes around, will Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik play in it?

The senior signal-caller met with the media Tuesday and commented on whether he plans to play in the bowl game.

“I’m planning on it, yeah. I play football, so…,” Klubnik said.

Klubnik discussed why he would potentially choose to play in the bowl game and not opt out.

Of course, players opting out of bowl games has become a common trend in this day and age of college football, driven mainly by players declaring for the NFL Draft to focus on preparation and avoid injury risk.

“I mean, I love to play football, and I’m a guy that loves everything about it,” Klubnik said. “I love the work in February, in the summer, and I love the journey to playing a game. You work all year to play football, and you only get so many opportunities.”

With that said, at this time, Klubnik isn’t really worried about Clemson’s bowl game. Right now, he is solely focused on Saturday’s game against rival South Carolina (4-7) in Columbia (noon, SEC Network).

“Right now, my focus is on this weekend,” he said. “So, I’m really focused on this weekend, and whatever happens after that is gonna happen.”

“So, right now, again, I’m focused on going and playing Saturday and giving everything I have, and being up here as long as I need to be up here to go win a game on Saturday,” Klubnik reiterated. “So, that’s really what my focus is on.”

Klubnik heads into Saturday’s game having completed 67.2 percent of his passes for 2,482 yards and 16 touchdowns with five interceptions across 10 games this season. The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder has also rushed for 95 yards and three more scores on 67 carries.

A former five-star prospect from Texas, Klubnik entered the 2025 season having previously thrown for 7,180 yards with 57 touchdowns and 18 interceptions over 37 games (28 starts), while also rushing for 784 yards and 13 touchdowns on 286 rushing attempts over his first three seasons from 2022-24.
