Does Swinney Expect Any Bowl Game Opt-Outs?

After wrapping up the 2025 regular season with Saturday’s 28-14 win at South Carolina, Clemson will now await its bowl destination.

During his postgame press conference Saturday, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was asked if he expects any bowl game opt-outs.

“Shoot, I have no idea. I don’t expect any, but we’ll find out one of these days,” Swinney said. “I haven’t even processed anything like that. I would be shocked, honestly, but anything’s possible. But we’ll be ready.”

Clemson (7-5) has a number of juniors and seniors who have decisions to make regarding the NFL, and who could potentially decide not to play in the bowl game.

Of course, players opting out of bowl games has become a common trend in this day and age of college football, driven mainly by players declaring for the NFL Draft to focus on preparation and avoid injury risk.

Clemson’s bowl destination will be announced on Sunday, Dec. 7.
