Swinney Raves About New Clemson OL Signee

Among the six offensive linemen signed by Clemson on Wednesday, upon the opening of the NCAA early signing period, is Grant Wise.

Wise (6-4, 315) drew plenty of praise from Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney during his signing day press conference.

Swinney raved about Wise, a consensus four-star recruit ranked among the top 300 prospects nationally by all the major recruiting services.

“I don’t know that we’ve ever signed a guy better than Grant Wise,” Swinney said. “This is a beast of a man. This is a guy that looks like he’s a senior in college right now. This is a grown man.”

Wise made 45 consecutive starts in his prep career, helping Pace (Fla.) High School to a 35-10 record in that span while being credited by coaches with 485 knockdowns, zero sacks and zero pressures.

Wise earned all-state honors in 2023 and 2024, with selections for 2025 still pending, and was named FACA 6A District I Player of the Year as a senior in guiding his team to a 10-2 record and a 6A regional semifinal appearance. As a junior, he garnered a second-team MaxPreps All-American selection.

“Man, this is a big-time center, guard,” Swinney said. “But I mean, elite. Elite.”

Wise was also a decorated powerlifter who captured Florida state titles in both the Olympic and traditional scoring classifications as a junior, clearing 405 pounds on bench, 350 on clean and 295 pounds in the snatch.

“He’s a weightlifting champion. He’s as good as I’ve ever seen come through here in our camp,” Swinney said.

“I love this kid. I love everything about him.”

Wise is the son of Ty Wise, who was a starting center at Miami and blocked for running backs Edgerrin James and Clinton Portis in his playing career from 1996-99. Ty now serves as a coach at Pace High.

“Ty was a great player,” Swinney said.

The younger Wise, who committed to Clemson back in March, plans to enroll in January.

“Big, big get by the Tigers with him,” Swinney said.

Along with Wise, Clemson’s 2026 offensive line signees include four-stars Chance Barclay, Adam Guthrie, Leo Delaney and Carter Scruggs, and three-star Braden Wilmes.
