Veteran DB Planning to Enter Portal

Clemson is losing a veteran defensive back to the transfer portal.

Junior safety Khalil Barnes has announced his intent to enter the portal when it opens on January 2.

Barnes burst onto the scene in his debut season in 2023, earning freshman All-American honors while becoming the first Clemson player in the Dabo Swinney era to record multiple forced fumbles and multiple interceptions in a freshman season.

As a junior, Barnes started all 12 regular-season games, registering 40 tackles and one tackle for loss. This was the first season of his career that he did not record an interception. He picked off three passes as a freshman and four more during his sophomore campaign.

Barnes will have one season of eligibility remaining. He is the second player to announce plans to enter the portal on Tuesday, joining RB Keith Adams Jr. Defensive back Shelton Lewis and linebacker Dee Crayton have also already announced plans to enter the portal.
