One current Clemson commit is heading to a state title game.
Four-star QB Kharim Hughley threw one touchdown and ran for another, helping lead Gainesville to a 37-6 blowout win over Rome in the Georgia 5A semifinal matchup on Thursday night. The Red Elephants (12-2) now advance to the state title game against Thomas County Central, set to be played on December 17 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Back in November, Hughley boldly predicted his team was going to make a deep run in the postseason.
“We are going to go all the way,” the quarterback told The Clemson Insider.
Hughley threw a 46-yard touchdown strike in the second quarter that gave Gainesville a commanding 21-0 lead. His short touchdown run in the third quarter extended the lead to 30-0.
Hughley committed to Clemson back in July, about a week after picking up his offer from the Tigers.
Heading into Thursday night’s game, Hughley had thrown for 2,344 yards, while completing 64% of his throws, with 32 touchdowns to just six interceptions. He’s also rushed for more than 250 yards, with six more scores via his legs.
Rivals ranks Hughley No. 114 overall and No. 10 among all quarterbacks in the 2027 class.
