Lawrence Continues to Stay Hot: ‘This Is Where the Fun Starts’

Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars are rolling.

The former Clemson quarterback, and top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, sliced up the Denver defense in a 34-20 road win on Sunday, continuing what is arguably the best stretch of his career. It was the Broncos’ first loss since September.

“We knew what we were getting into,” Lawrence said after the win. “This is a really good team. I told all those guys after the game that they are a good squad and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see them again. A lot of respect for them. A really good defense.”

Lawrence was in total control all game, completing 23-of-36 for 279 yards, with four total touchdowns. One of his touchdown passes went to former Clemson running back Travis Etienne.

The win extends the team’s winning streak to six games and moves the Jags to 11-4 on the season, with some now calling them legitimate Super Bowl contenders. It is the first time Jacksonville has hit the 11-win mark since 2007.

“We don’t really care if people are paying attention; that is what we are showing people,” Lawrence added with a smile. “But it’s been fun.”

Over the past four games, Lawrence has thrown for 1,194 yards, and he’s been responsible for 14 touchdowns. He’s also not turned the ball over during that stretch.

The Jaguars are currently sitting in first place atop the AFC South standings, one game ahead of Tennessee. Next up is a road trip to Indianapolis, before concluding the regular season against the Titans, which could decide who wins the division.

“Obviously, we got a couple of big ones left, so we got to take it one week at a time,” Lawrence said. “This is where the fun starts. We just got to keep rolling.”
