A former Clemson standout reportedly has a new coaching job.
Former Tiger offensive lineman Chris Hairston has been hired as the new offensive line coach for Winston-Salem State University, according to HBCU Gameday.
Hairston, a graduate of Carver High School in Winston-Salem, has been coaching at Charlotte’s Rocky River High School for the last three seasons, according to the report.
Hairston, a three-year offensive line starter at Clemson, played for the Tigers from 2007-10. He started 36-of-47 games he played for the Tigers, playing a total of 2,260 snaps in his collegiate career. He made 22 consecutive starts, and in 2010, he was tabbed a first-team All-ACC selection at tackle. He was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft and played 74 games (31 starts) during his NFL career with the Bills and San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers from 2011-17.
The Winston-Salem State Rams, a member of the NCAA Division II Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, recently announced Tory Woodbury as the program’s next head football coach.
Woodbury is a former NFL quarterback who enjoyed an eight-year professional career. He spent time with the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, and Buffalo Bills, as well as the Arena Football League’s New Orleans Voodoo and Carolina Speed. He is a Winston-Salem native and former Winston-Salem State QB.
“When I heard the news on Instagram, I knew I had to be here,” Hairston said during Woodbury’s introductory press conference, via HBCU Gameday. “This is a new, exciting era for Winston-Salem State. I’m excited for it, and I know a lot of things are going to change.”
