This Clemson assistant is reportedly headed to another ACC school.
Syracuse is hiring John Scott Jr. to be the program’s assistant head coach, defensive run game coordinator and defensive line coach, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Scott has been a defensive assistant at Clemson the last two years. The veteran coach has also coached at a number of other schools, most recently Penn State (2020-22), South Carolina (2019) and Arkansas (2017-18).
In addition to his college coaching experience, Scott has NFL coaching experience from his time with the Detroit Lions in 2023 and the New York Jets from 2015-16.
As for his college experience, along with being the defensive line coach at Penn State, South Carolina and Arkansas, Scott was the defensive line coach at Texas Tech (2013-14) and spent three seasons as the defensive line coach and special teams coordinator at Georgia Southern (2010-12). He also spent time at Missouri State (2009; outside linebackers), Western Carolina (2006-08; defensive ends/outside linebackers), Norfolk State (2005; defensive line), Louisiana-Lafayette (2002-04; defensive graduate assistant) and Western Davidson (N.C.) (2001).
