Clemson QB Commit Still ‘All In’ Despite OC Change

Dabo Swinney might be changing offensive coordinators, but the lone quarterback commit in the 2027 class is holding firm with his pledge.

Four-star Kharim Hughley, who committed to the Tigers back in July, about a week after picking up his offer, says he’s still fully locked in with Clemson.

“I trust Coach Swinney and his decision,” Hughley told The Clemson Insider. “I’m all in.”

Hughley helped lead his Gainesville High School team to the 5A state title game in Georgia. While the Red Elephants fell short of winning it all, Hughley was a big part of the success that led to a 12-win season.

The junior signal caller threw for 2,456 yards with 33 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also rushed for 379 yards with eight more scores via his legs.

When Hughley committed, he had only visited Clemson once, which was an appearance at a session of Dabo Swinney’s high school camp back in June. However, that is all it took for the young quarterback to know where he wanted to play. After he committed, he visited for every home game this season.

It was the culture Hughley originally fell in love with. Not any one assistant or a particular scheme. And it’s the culture that Swinney cultivated that keeps him firm in his commitment.

Even back in November, when the Tigers were coming off back-to-back home losses to SMU and Duke, which left the team sitting at 3-5, Hughley wasn’t wavering. He said then that there was only one thing that would have him reconsidering his decision.

“The only way that would happen is if Coach Swinney gets fired,” Hughley said.

The blue-chip quarterback is one of five commitments for the Tigers in the 2027 class, which 247Sports currently ranks ninth in the country.

Hughley ranks as high as No. 113 overall and as high as No. 5 among all quarterbacks in the class.
