Clemson Standing Out to Top-Level Portal Defender

Clemson is in the market for a number of transfers, and one multi-year starter says the Tigers are in the mix.

Southern Cal transfer DT Devan Thompkins says Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Ohio State are the five schools standing out to him during the portal process.

The 6-foot-5, 300-pound redshirt sophomore has spent the past three seasons with the Trojans, and the 2025 season was his best to date. Thompkins posted 31 tackles, three sacks, one forced fumble and two pass breakups.

With Stephiylan Green and Caden Story leaving via the portal and Peter Woods and DeMonte Capehart off to the NFL, Clemson is certainly in the market for an instant-impact transfer. Thompkins would definitely fit that bill, as he’s proven to be effective against the run and can rush the quarterback from the interior.

Thompkins is the second-highest rated DT in the 247 portal rankings and No. 20 overall regardless of position. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
