Bad News for South Carolina

The South Carolina football program got some more bad news on Saturday.

The Gamecocks have suffered a major departure to the transfer portal, as starting left tackle Josiah Thompson announced via Instagram that he will enter the portal.

A sophomore, Thompson has started at left tackle for South Carolina each of the last two seasons. The 6-foot-7, 300-pounder was a freshman All-American in 2024 and earned freshman All-SEC honors from the league’s 16 coaches.

Thompson, a product of Dillon (S.C.) High School, was rated by On3 as a five-star prospect and was ranked as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the country for the 2024 recruiting class.

Thompson becomes the seventh Gamecocks scholarship offensive lineman who is entering the portal, joining a list of others that includes Nick Sharpe, Trovon Baugh, Cason Henry, Tree Babalade, R.J. Newsom, and Boaz Stanley.
