SEC Edge Transfer Has Interest in Clemson

An athletic SEC edge rusher in the transfer portal has Clemson on his radar.

Former Tennessee edge Caleb Herring confirmed to The Clemson Insider that he has been in contact with Clemson and has interest in the Tigers.

“I am interested,” Herring said. “[Clemson defensive ends] Coach [Chris] Rumph talked to me some.”

Before entering the portal, Herring spent three seasons at Tennessee from 2023-25. The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder saw an increased role in the defensive line rotation as a sophomore in 2024 and emerged as a key contributor off the edge in 2025, when he recorded 14 tackles, six tackles for loss, four sacks and two pass breakups.

Herring left Knoxville having tallied 25 tackles, eight tackles for loss, five sacks, two pass breakups and one forced fumble in his career spanning 36 games.

Herring played his prep ball at Riverdale (Tenn.) High School. He was a four-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class. According to the 247Sports Composite, he was the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee, the 14th-best edge rusher nationally and the No. 85 overall prospect in the country.
