CLEMSON — Nick Davidson scored 21 of his game-high 25 points in the first half, while R.J. Godfrey tallied all 10 of his points in the second half and center Carter Welling added 10 as well, as No. 22 Clemson ran away from Boston College, 74-50, Tuesday at Littlejohn Coliseum.
The Eagles (7-10, 0-4 ACC) went back and forth with the Tigers in the first eight minutes of the game, and had the lead 15-13, when Davidson took over. Though he was averaging just 8.2 points a game coming in, Davidson did his best Larry Bird impression against, of all teams, a team from Boston.
THE GREAT CELTIC
Davidson led Clemson (15-3, 5-0 ACC) to a 37-27 halftime lead. The transfer from Nevada scored a season-high 21 points in the first 20 minutes. He was 7-for-9 from the field, including 4 of 6 from behind the arc.
The senior scored 21 straight points for the Tigers starting at the 12:10 mark in the first half until the 2:42 spot. During that time, Davidson outscored BC 21-9. His 21 straight points is a Clemson record.
At one point, he had a personal 18-3 run on the Eagles. The previous record for most consecutive points for a Clemson player was 17 in a row by Hunter Tyson on December 30, 2022, against NC State.
Davidson’s previous high for the season was 18 points, which he did on Nov. 7 against Gardner-Webb. He finished Tuesday’s game 8 of 11 from the field and 4-for-6 from downtown.
DOING THE DIRTY WORK
Clemson guard Dillon Hunter scored nine points, had seven rebounds and added five assists in the Tigers’ victory. Again, the senior proved he is not afraid to get dirty and fill the stat line up.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
As mentioned, Godfrey scored all 10 of his points in the second half as Clemson built a 25-point second half lead. His 10 points marked the sixth straight game in which Godfrey scored in double figures.
MAGIC EIGHT BALL
Clemson won its eighth straight game overall. The Tigers last loss came on Dec. 9 to BYU in the Jimmy V Classic at Madsen Square Garden in New York.
LUCKY NO. 13?
Thanks to Tuesday’s win over Boston College, the Tigers have now won a program-record 13 straight ACC regular season games dating back to last year.
GETTING HOT
During the first six games of the Tigers’ eight-game win streak, they won those six games by seven points or less. However, Clemson has won the last two games against Notre Dame and BC by 15 and 24 points respectedly.
GREAT START
After struggling early in the game, the Tigers heated up midway through the first half. Thanks to Davidson’s 21 straight points, Clemson connected on 54 percent of their 26 shots (14-26) and was 6-for-12 from behind the 3-point line.
UP NEXT
Clemson will stay at home and will host Miami on Saturday. Tipoff for Saturday’s game is set for 2:15 p.m.
