South Carolina is losing a key reserve to the transfer portal.

Edge rusher Desmond Umeozulu announced late Thursday night that he was planning to enter the transfer portal. The current window closes Friday night. He has spent his entire three-year career with the Gamecocks.

Umeozulu appeared in all 12 games as a junior in 2025, including making one start, finishing the season with 19 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack. In the 28-14 loss to Clemson back in November, he was credited with one tackle.

Despite being a highly-touted four-star prospect coming out of high school, Umeozulu was never able to crack the starting lineup at South Carolina. Over his three-year career, he totaled 30 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and the one sack.

Umeozulu is the 23rd South Carolina player to enter the portal, per 247Sports.
