New Development for Clemson WR Target

CLEMSON — There has been a new development with one of Clemson’s top wide receiver targets.

DJ Huggins (Harrison, GA) picked up an offer from the Tigers back in October after visiting for the SMU game. It was his first Power 4 offer.

Over the next few months, Huggins continued to fly under the radar. He was hearing from Georgia and Arkansas, but it was the Tigers that continued to recruit him the hardest.

However, Huggins is flying under the radar no longer. On Saturday, the 5-foot-11 wideout picked up his second Power-4 offer, this one coming from the Dawgs while on a visit to Athens. It’s the kind of offer that could change the complexion of his recruitment entirely.

“It is a big one, and I am grateful for the offer for sure,” Huggins told The Clemson Insider. “Haven’t really had a chance to process it, to be honest.”

As a junior, Huggins had 74 catches for 1,127 yards with 12 touchdowns. He averaged 16.8 yards per reception and 102.5 receiving yards per game.

Last weekend, Huggins told TCI that everyone was playing catch-up to the Tigers. That’s how far out in front Clemson was. How much this new offer changes things is yet to be determined, but it would be naive to think it doesn’t impact this recruitment in some way.

Huggins had been contemplating announcing a commitment as early as his birthday next month, but that wasn’t set in stone by any means. He has already locked in plans to be at the Elite Retreat on March 7, and wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham was in to see him recently.

Make no mistake, Clemson is still a legitimate contender to land Huggins, but the battle just got a whole lot tougher.
