Clemson Set to Host Ivy League Transfer

Clemson is set to host an Ivy League transfer next week.

University of Pennsylvania transfer linebacker Ryan O’Connell confirmed to The Clemson Insider that he plans to visit Clemson next Thursday.

O’Connell, who will graduate from Penn in May, announced Tuesday that he has received a preferred walk-on offer from the Tigers. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

O’Connell told TCI that Auburn, Northwestern, Duke, Minnesota and some other schools have also been interested in him.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound O’Connell has spent the last four years at Penn. After not seeing any game action in 2022, he has appeared in 30 games over the last three seasons, tallying 43 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and a pass breakup. He posted 27 tackles, two tackles for loss and two sacks across 10 games in 2025.

O’Connell hails from Fairfield (Conn.) Prep, where he was a team captain and Walter Camp first team all-state/New Haver Register first team all-state performer.

His father, Robert O’Connell, played linebacker at TCU.
