CLEMSON — Dabo Swinney officially introduced Chad Morris as his new offensive coordinator at Clemson, noting that he was going “back to the future” with this hire.
This will be Morris’ second stint running the Tigers’ offense, as he served in the same role from 2011-14.
However, that was not the only staffing news Swinney revealed on Friday. While Morris will serve as offensive coordinator, Tajh Boyd will see his role elevated. As previously reported by The Clemson Insider, Boyd will be out on the road recruiting.
“Chad will be our OC. Tajh Boyd will be our quarterbacks coach,” Swinney said. “Chad will not be on the road. He’ll be in the office.”
While Boyd has the title of quarterbacks coach, we did get this comment from Morris regarding the quarterbacks.
“It is my responsibility to develop these guys,” the new OC said.
Swinney has also added Mike Miller to the staff. Miller had had stints at Alabama, Maryland and Charlotte. He served as the 49ers’ offensive coordinator in 2023 and 2024.
Lonnie Galloway, who served as an unpaid assistant last season, will now officially be the senior offensive assistant.
Jacoby Ford is also returning to the Upstate.
“Jacoby Ford will be a player development coach, speed development and assistant wide receivers coach,” Swinney said. “He’s been training the best of the best down in Florida. He’s also been a high school coach for the past eight years.”
Artavis Scott, who was the wide receivers coach at Howard last season, will serve as an assistant running backs coach for the Tigers in 2026. Scott played a role in defensive end CJ Wesley transferring from Howard to Clemson.
Swinney also confirmed that Freddie Kitchens will serve in a volunteer assistant role. Kitchens has been all over, including serving as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 2019. He was most recently the offensive coordinator at North Carolina.
Thomas Allen, the son of defensive coordinator Tom Allen, has been named the defensive passing game coordinator and will oversee the secondary. The younger Allen has already started going out on the road recruiting.
“Defensively, the biggest change that we made is that Thomas Allen will be our defensive passing game coordinator. I didn’t really know Thomas, other than he was Tom’s son. He’ll be a coordinator in the SEC, ACC or Big Ten before he’s 30. He’s a gifted young coach. I’m thankful that we were able to keep him here for another year. He will handle our installs and make sure everyone is on the same page. He did a great job when we empowered him.”
Nolan Turner has been promoted to safeties coach. He was an assistant safeties coach last season.
Corico Wright will oversee the nicklebacks. He’s had stints at Delaware, Furman and James Madison coaching safeties and corners.
Swinney also announced that former safety Jayron Kearse is back in school, looking to complete his degree, and will serve as a student assistant this season.
Anthony Lazard is coming from Stanford to join Dennis Love’s staff in the strength and conditioning department.
Swinney also addressed the open special-teams coordinator position.
“Our special teams coordinator, we have a good plan on what we’re doing there,” the head coach said. “I’ll make an announcement on that soon.”
