Moore Steps Up With Career-High Performance

CLEMSON — Mia Moore delivered one of the more complete games of her career on Sunday.

The Clemson guard led the Tigers in every major category, including a career-high 30 points in an 83-59 victory over Boston College at Littlejohn Coliseum. Moore also had 12 rebounds and six assists, while her 30 points marked the third time this season she scored at least 20 points in a game.

Her performance on Sunday came just days after a couple of not-so-good outings, where she tallied a combined 10 points.

And after a frustrating practice the day before, Moore knew she had to step it up.

“Well, I didn’t have a great day at practice yesterday,” she said. “So Coach (Shawn Poppie) was kind of on my butt yesterday. So, I knew that today I had to be way better than what it was yesterday.”

Her effort to step it up showed, especially when she played 39 out of the 40 minutes, while consistently creating momentum and flow in the offense.

“Mia was on the practice squad yesterday,” Poppie said. “First time in her career, but maybe that’ll be a new thing.”

Moore’s success wasn’t because of any special drawn-up plays, but it was strictly due to the offense playing smoothly together.

“A lot of that she’s creating within her offense,” Poppie said. “Most of it was just through the flow of our offense.”

After feeling down and really questioning her self, Moore’s teammates are who brought the confidence back to her and helped remind her who she is.

“I just think being able to feed my teammates and shout them out helps me to get going.”

There is one thing Moore loves to do, though.

“I love to rebound,” she said.

Poppie shared how much Moore means to him and the team, way beyond basketball. He expressed how much they trust each other and how they are constantly communicating.

Moore is in her second season at Clemson after transferring from UAB. It is evident the impact she has on her team. Against Boston College, she proved exactly who she is and what she is capable of doing.
