CLEMSON — While multiple Clemson pitchers will miss the start of the season due to injuries, the Tigers will also be without one for another reason.
After being arrested last month on misdemeanor charges for an altercation at a local downtown bar, transfer pitcher Ariston Veasey will also miss the start of the season.
While Erik Bakich did not say Veasey had been suspended, the head coach did reveal the right-handed hurler is going to miss some time.
“It’s like parenting,” Bakich said on Tuesday. “Kids make mistakes, you don’t love them any less. You just own it, and you move on. And that is what we did, and he did.”
Bakich also did not disclose how much time Veasey would miss, but it sounds like the former Alabama pitcher will not be available this weekend when the Tigers open the season at home against Army.
“He’ll be out for a little bit of time, not a long time, but a little bit of time to start the year,” Bakich said. “That’s one of those situations where a really good kid makes a bad decision for five seconds, and it has a ripple effect.”
Veasey spent the first two seasons of his career with the Crimson Tide before transferring to Clemson. While at Alabama, the hard-throwing right-hander appeared in just five games, throwing 3.2 innings.
“He is a great kid and an extremely hard worker and we are going to see him out here competing for Clemson sooner rather than later.”
