Clemson Loses Veteran Pitcher

CLEMSON — Clemson will be without one of its best pitchers for the remainder of the season.

Clemson head coach Erik Bakich announced on Sunday the 15th-ranked Tigers will be without pitcher Jacob McGovern for the rest of the season with an elbow injury. He said surgery is set for later this week.

A lefty from nearby Seneca (S.C) High School, McGovern came on late in the 2024 season to become a valuable pitcher out of the bullpen for the Tigers. He was one of the team’s most effective relievers in 2025, as well.

The Tigers, who beat Bryant on Sunday to improve to 7-0 on the young season, were counting on McGovern to be someone they could count on coming out of the bullpen. Unfortunately, they will have to wait until next season.

The two-time ACC Academic Honor Roll member has worked 53 1/3 innings over 31 appearances the last last two seasons, including two starts. He has a 6-1 record, two saves and a 3.21 ERA.

In the postseason, McGovern has pitched 17 2/3 innings in seven relief appearances. He has allowed eight hits, four earned runs (2.04 ERA) and six walks with 20 strikeouts. In the ACC Tournament, he pitched 9 1/3 innings over three relief appearances and has allowed two hits, no earned runs and two walks with eight strikeouts.
