CLEMSON — Clemson hit the practice fields for Day 5 of Spring Practices behind the Allen Reeves Football Complex.
Wednesday was also the first day the Tigers were in full gear this spring. The media was allowed to observe the first five periods of practice.
Below are a few notes we observed from the offensive side of things.
–Clemson showed a little bit of its offensive lineup to this point. The Tigers ran a little “Indy Drill” with the quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends and the offensive line.
–Here is what the lineup looked like in Indy: Christian Bentancur was the first tight end, along with Gideon Davidson at running back and Christopher Vizzina at quarterback. On the offensive line, Easton Ware was the right tackle, Tucker Kattus was right guard, Harris Sewell was at center, Elyah Thurmon was at left guard and Brayden Jacobs was at left tackle. Collen Sadler was wearing a yellow jersey and cannot participate in the drill. Freshman offensive lineman Braden Wilmes was also wearing a yellow jersey.
–Logan Brooking was the No. 2 tight end to come in, while redshirt junior Charles Johnson was the third tight end.
–Chris Johnson, Jr., came in and spelled Davidson at running back during the drill.
–We did not see Vizzina throw much, other than a few times in the drill. He was the only quarterback that worked in the drill. The offensive line stayed the same, as well. The passes he did throw were short passes.
–The most interesting thing was seeing offensive coordinator Chad Morris, head coach Dabo Swinney and several members of the offensive staff wearing headsets during practice. That was a first. Offensive line coach Tyrone Crowder, tight ends coach Cole Stoudt, wide receiver Clay Swinney and another staffer were all wearing headsets as well.
–Offensive players also wearing a yellow jersey were: wide receivers Cole Turner and T.J. Moore and tight end Olsen Patt-Henry.
–Offensive players wearing green jerseys were: Jacobs and wide receiver Bryant Wesco, Jr.
–The energy in warmups did not feel as good as it it did on Day 2, which is an indication that drills and practice days are settling in. Day 2 was the last time the media got to watch some of practice. Moore, who jogged over to the designated area for players in yellow jerseys last week, just causally walked to the work area on Wednesday.
–Clemson spent one drill were the wide receivers and defensive backs went against each other in the screen game, while the running backs and linebackers did the same.
–In the drill, Morris laid into the players that were slacking off. He made them run to the exact 12-yards laid out, anyone who came up short had to go back and do the drill over again.
