None of QBs Were ‘Good Enough’ During First Scrimmage

Dabo Swinney was not overly pleased with the performance of his offense in Clemson’s first scrimmage of the spring.

The head coach met with members of the media following the stadium scrimmage that took place at Memorial Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, noting nobody on that side of the ball was good enough.

“Nobody was good enough today,” Swinney said. “Offensively, we were really average.”

With the quarterback job wide open and Chris Vizzina and Chris Denson both battling for the spot atop the depth chart, Wednesday’s first scrimmage was an opportunity for one of those guys to start separating themselves.

However, Swinney wasn’t thoroughly impressed with either of those guys during the scrimmage.

Again, the criticism wasn’t just resigned to the quarterbacks, as Swinney doubled down on it not being a good day for the offense.

“Just ok. I mean, nobody was great, but again, you can only do your part,” Swinney said. “You can not do it by yourself. You can’t play left guard, you can’t play left tackle, you can’t run the right route, can’t catch the ball. But there are a lot of things you can do that I didn’t think we did a good job of.”

The Tigers are breaking in a new scheme this spring under first-year coordinator Chad Morris. Wednesday’s scrimmage was the final spring practice until after the team gets back from spring break. The next time Clemson will practice will be Monday, March 23.
