Clemson’s running back board expanded by one during the Elite Retreat last weekend.
Four-star RB Gary Walker (Creekside, GA) became just the third back in the 2027 class to pick up an offer from the Tigers while on campus for the event.
It was Walker’s first visit to campus, and he came away overly impressed.
“The biggest things that stood out were how close the staff was and how genuine the coaches were,” Walker told The Clemson Insider. “How strong the program culture felt in person.”
One thing Walker specifically enjoyed was head coach Dabo Swinney’s speech. It went about three hours this year.
“You can tell he believes in building young men on and off the field, and that he’s a man of god,” Walker added.
Walker rushed for 1,669 yards with 20 touchdowns as a junior, helping lead his team to a 4A state title. He has close to 30 offers in total, including Florida State, Penn State, Stanford and Virginia Tech.
The 247 Composite ranks the 6-foot-1, 200-pound back No. 126 overall and No. 5 among all running backs in the class.
Walker has already locked in plans to be at Clemson’s big official visit May 29-31 and he also says he’s planning to get back to campus at some point this spring, although he’s yet to get a date set.
He’s hoping to have a decision made at some point during the summer, and not that he has the offer, the Tigers are in serious contention.
“It was amazing, I am blessed for sure,” Walker said. “Clemson is high for me.”
