CLEMSON — The Clemson men’s basketball team learned where it will be headed and who it will play in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday at Littlejohn Coliseum.
The Tigers are the No. 8 seed in the South Regional and will play No. 9 Iowa on Friday in Tampa, Fla.
This marks the third straight year Clemson has been selected as at-large in the NCAA Tournament, just the third time that has happened in the program’s history. Head coach Brad Brownell becomes just the third coach in the history of the program to earn the Tigers three straight NCAA bids, joining Rick Barnes (1996,’97 and ’98) and Oliver Purnell (2008, ’09 and ’10).
“I am proud of the consistency,” Brownell said recently. “We have a fantastic coaching staff with Coach (Dick) Bender, Coach (Billy) Donlon, Coach (Sean) Dixon, Coach (Jeff) Reynolds, Andy (Assaley), Lucas (McKay), T-Mac (Terrell McIntyre), AJ, (Morris), those guys are terrific and they are terrific at what they do. So, they really help me put our players in a position to be successful.”
Clemson (24-10) will be making its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance under Brownell, more than any other coach in program history. This will be the program’s fifth appearance since 2018.
The Tigers are 6-5 in their 10 NCAA Tournament games with Brownell as head coach, with his six wins already a record for a Clemson head coach. Brownell led the Tigers to the Sweet 16 in 2018 and to the Elite Eight in 2024.
“I am proud of our staff for what we have done, and obviously the consistency of the program over the last nine or ten years or whatever it is,” Brownell said. “I think we have raised the bar and, obviously, the facilities, we have talked about that, how much that has helped.”
Clemson will be making its 16th NCAA Tournament appearance overall. The Tigers are 14-15 overall in the tournament.
