4-Star Target Calls Clemson ‘Different’

Peyton Miller’s most recent visit to Clemson could not have gone much better.

The four-star offensive lineman, out of Anna, Texas, picked up one of the Tigers’ opening offers last summer after working out at camp. He returned for the loss to Syracuse and was back just over a week ago for the Elite Retreat.

Miller found himself captivated by Dabo Swinney’s long speech, which he felt addressed some unanswered questions he had about the Clemson program.

“It was pretty long, but it definitely answered a lot of questions,” Miller told The Clemson Insider. “It turned a lot of unknown stones. It was definitely a great talk. I was looking forward to it. I was thinking maybe some people would start dozing off, but everybody was locked in. It was a great speech.”

Swinney’s speech shed light on some truths about the program’s consistency over the years.

“Just the fact that you can’t prove stats wrong,” Miller added. “He showed us a lot of stats that were very true. Once he put those up compared against the best people in the country, Clemson stands there up at the very top with everybody else.”

The fact that he is one of fewer than 60 players in the 2027 class with an offer from the Tigers also resonates.

“Just being able to be recruited by Clemson. He showed us a thing where they are the school with the least amount of offers of anybody in the country,” Miller said. “To be recruited by that school is just very special.”

Miller also attended a spring practice while on campus. Growing up not far from where Chad Morris coached high school ball in Texas, he’s always had an appreciation for the Tigers’ new offensive coordinator. Getting to finally meet him in person was one of the highlights of the visit.

“This was the first time I had ever shaken his hand,” said Miller. “He was around me the whole time. He ate dinner with me twice while we were there. He was very relatable. Big Texas guys so it was just fun to get around him and see how he coached. To see how his coaching style is going to affect Clemson’s success this year.”

Getting an in-person look at Matt Luke’s coaching style was another thing that stood out.

“Being able to go there and watch practice under Chad Morris, and getting to talk to Chad Morris more, and getting to see how Coach Luke is actually coaching his guys out on the field, and listening to Dabo talk that long, I definitely view Clemson as very different,” Miller said. “It is definitely very high on my list.”

Miller got a lot of face time with Luke, as well as some of the current offensive linemen on the team.

“I got to spend some time with Harris Sewell and Ronan O’Connell,” he said. “I got to spend as lot of time with the players and Coach Luke, as well. Most of the offensive linemen sat together the whole time. Coach Luke talked a ton. It was good to see how he goes about every day in that sense.”

ESPN ranks Miller No. 67 overall, No. 1 among all interior linemen in the class and No. 12 in his state.

The 6-foot-5, 300-pounder still has spring stops scheduled with Texas, Texas Tech and Florida. After that come official visits. Miller has locked in plans to be at Clemson’s big weekend, May 29-31. SMU, Texas, Texas Tech and Arizona State will also get officials. He is aiming to have a decision made at some point in July.

While three of those schools getting officials are in his home state of Texas, Miller said there is no pressure on him to stay close to home. After this latest visit, Clemson is one of the schools at the top of his list, and he’d feel as comfortable there as he would somewhere in Texas.

“I feel like there is no real pressure to keep me home,” said Miller. “Especially by my family. There is no real pressure about staying here. It’s about where I think I will fit. Clemson is definitely a little bit farther, but it is easy to get to. Easy travel in and out of Greenville. Plenty of direct flights. So there is no problem there for me.”
