CLEMSON — Clemson football held its 11th practice of the spring on Monday at the practice fields behind the Allen Reeves Football Complex.
The media was able to observe the first three periods of practice. Below is what The Clemson Insider observed during our time out there.
–The big news coming from practice came at quarterback where freshman Tait Reynolds was running every quarterback drill that we saw at No. 2, including the team tempo drill. Before spring break, Chris Denson was working with the second-team offense.
–TCI also noticed that transfer running back Chris Johnson, Jr., was working first team running back in the tempo drill. Gideon Davidson was the second running back in while Jarvis Green was the third running back we saw come in. Johnson took the first carry of the tempo drill and nearly broke it.
–Of course, Christopher Vizzina was working with the ones. He had some good passes in the tempo drill but he also threw one that was almost intercepted. Pearman was fourth in the rotation and freshman Brock Bradley was the fifth guy in the rotattion.
–We also noticed wide receiver T.J. Moore was wearing a green jersey today. That is an upgrade from what he was wearing prior to spring break, when he was in a yellow jersey. A green jersey means he is allowed to participate in all individual drills and can do anything that does not involve being tackled (live drills). Yellow means a player is very limited in practice.
–During one part of tempo, we noticed Johnson lined up in the slot.
–On the offensive line, TCI saw Brayden Jacobs was the first-team left tackle with Elyjah Thurmon working left guard, Harris Sewell was playing center, Tucker Kattus was playing right guard and Easton Ware was playing right tackle.
–On the defensive side of the ball, Jahiem Lawson and Will Heldt were the defensive ends, with Markus Strong and Vic Burley at defensive tackle.
–Jeremiah Alexander was lining up at middle linebacker, while Sammy Brown was on the weakside.
–Jerome Carter III was playing safety, along with Corey Myrick. Ashton Hampton and Elliott Washington II were the corners.
–Misun Kelley was lined up as the nickel back or “Tiger” as defensive coordinator Tom Allen calls it.
–Freshman receiver Gordon Sellars III was catching punts first, followed by Moore and fellow freshman wideout Naeem Burroughs.
