Davidson Breaks Down Clemson QBs

CLEMSON — Gideon Davidson admits that learning the Chad Morris offense has been a little tough at times this spring, but having already spent a year at Clemson has made it easier to digest.

The rising sophomore running back came out of the spring having a firm grasp on the starting job, and he’s excited about the Morris offense that places more emphasis on the running game.

“I think we are all getting very comfortable with it,” Davidson said. “I also think it is a little easier (than) coming from high school, obviously, because I have been here a whole year. It has definitely been a firehose, but it’s been a little bit easier since I have a year under my belt.”

“He is going to run the ball a lot, but he is not going to rely on one guy to do it. That was very encouraging. And it will obviously open up the passing game.”

Davidson has also gotten a firsthand look at the quarterback battle brewing at Clemson. The second year back has seen a noticeable difference in Chris Vizzina throughout the spring. Vizzina has patiently waited his turn for the past three seasons behind Cade Klubnik and came out of the spring as QB1.

“I would say a lot more confidence in his leadership,” Davidson said. “Definitely more vocal. He is also playing a lot faster. I think just his confidence is leading him.”

However, Tait Reynolds is making a push for that top spot. The true freshman has already all but secured the backup job, creating a substantial gap between himself and the quarterbacks behind him in the room.

While it may have been Reynolds’ first spring, Davidson has seen a quarterback who plays with confidence and one who has an extremely big arm.

“I guess his confidence in the pocket,” Davidson said. “He really is able to throw the ball on a rope. Very confident. Also, he is very athletic. I do like that aspect of Tait, and I think he’s going to get it done.”
