There were a couple of new developments on the recruiting trail over the weekend.
As previously reported by TCI, 2027 wideout Dayon Cooper (South Pittsburgh, TN) is off the board. The former teammate of summer enrollee JR Hardrick committed to Florida State over the weekend while on an unofficial visit.
Cooper had just visited Clemson last weekend for the third time, marking his third trip to the Upstate over the past year. He was with Hardrick when he made his first trip to campus last summer, then returned for the LSU game.
“Getting to be on the sidelines, there was a lot of energy,” Cooper said of the latest visit. “Getting to watch all of the coaches and stuff. Especially watching my boy JR out there. You could tell he was at home. Everybody came up to him, showing him love. It was interesting and exciting watching that.”
While Florida State being the choice was no surprise, the timing might have caught some a little off guard, seeing as Cooper had recently said he hadn’t ironed out a timeline for making a decision.
Three-star wideout Taurean Rawlins (Mount Vernon, GA) was also on hand for the spring game and he told TCI he will be taking an official visit to Clemson June 12-14, the second weekend the Tigers will host officials this summer. The big weekend is set for May 29-31.
The 6-foot wideout has well over a dozen offers, including Georgia, Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. The Tigers have yet to offer.
Another 2028 quarterback prospect rolled through Clemson this weekend. Three-star Trey Wright (Lone Star, TX) visited on Saturday. The two-sport standout visited SMU a few days earlier.
Wright was a MaxPreps All-American after throwing for more than 4,000 yards as a sophomore. He was responsible for more than 5,800 total yards.
The 5-foot-11 signal caller recently picked up an offer from Missouri, to go along with ones from TCU, SMU and Cincinnati, among others.
