With the college basketball transfer portal officially opening on Tuesday, expect Clemson head coach Brad Brownell and his staff to be on the prowl for potential additions to next season’s roster.
One name to monitor is Central Connecticut guard Jay Rodgers. According to a report from League Ready’s Sam Kayser, Clemson is among the schools that have been in contact with Rodgers since he entered the portal.
The long list of other schools that Rodgers has heard from, per Kayser, also includes Florida Atlantic, Penn State, Southern Cal, Butler, Seton Hall, San Jose State, Tulane, Toledo, Miami (Ohio), Wyoming, Fresno State, Sacramento State, Elon, Hofstra, Iona and Cal State Fullerton.
Rodgers earned second-team All-Northeast Conference honors for the 2025-26 campaign, when he averaged 11.0 points, 2.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game while shooting 42.6 percent from the field.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder played in all 30 games for Central Connecticut, including 28 starts, and ranked eighth nationally in assists per game. With 206 total assists, Rodgers set the program’s D1 single-season assist mark.
Rodgers has one year of eligibility remaining.
So far, the Tigers have only lost one player from last year’s team to the portal, with Jake Wahlin announcing last week his intentions to enter.
