Clemson defensive tackle and top 2026 NFL Draft prospect Peter Woods joined the Up & Adams Show with NFL personality Kay Adams ahead of the draft.
Woods discussed how he’s feeling leading up to the draft, which is set to take place from April 23-25 in Pittsburgh.
“It feels crazy. Surreal, for real,” Woods said. “I’m just taking everything in, soaking the days up pre-draft, doing everything that I need to do just to make sure I put my position to change my life, change my family’s life and then ultimately change an organization. So, I’m excited.”
Woods singled out his meeting with former Michigan title-winning coach and current Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh as one that’s stood out to him in the pre-draft process.
The Chargers own the No. 22 overall pick in the first round of this year’s draft.
“When I did my meeting with Coach Harbaugh, because he’s at the Chargers now. I think that was kind of cool, just knowing his college pedigree and everything that he did for the sport in general,” Woods said. “I think it was pretty cool being able to meet him. Never played against him or anything or got recruited out of high school.”
“He’s just about his business,” Woods added of Harbaugh. “I think one thing that stood out to me is he cared about me and my family, the things that I value and that I hold dear to my heart. Because at the end of the day, he wants to know what drives his players. So, we spent a lot of that meeting talking about that. I feel like it was a lot less football. Because at the end of the day, what’s on tape is on tape. I’ve shown for the years that I’ve been at Clemson that I know how to play ball, that I know the game, that I got a high football IQ. So, it was just getting to know the person. I think I really appreciated that.”
Woods was credited with 99 tackles (14.5 for loss), five sacks, two forced fumbles and two pass breakups over 35 games (24 starts) in his Clemson career from 2023-25.
Offensively, he also rushed eight times for 15 yards with two rushing touchdowns. This past season, he became Clemson’s first defensive tackle named as an AP All-American since Christian Wilkins’ unanimous All-America sweep in 2018, and he was the only player in America in 2025 to record multiple games with both a sack and a rushing touchdown.
Considering the versatility he’s displayed at the college level, playing on both sides of the ball, have any NFL teams talked to Woods about using him as a running back in addition to his primary defensive tackle duties?

“I feel like it’s come up in every single one of my meetings,” Woods said. “But you just kind of get a read on how people are talking about it, and it’s most of the time just been joking, like OK, you can do this too? But it’s been cool just being able to just showcase that as another reason that I’m versatile. I don’t think that’s what I’m going to do in the NFL at all, but if they do call my number, I’m gonna be ready.”
Woods, a former five-star recruit and the No. 4 overall prospect in the nation for the 2023 recruiting class per ESPN, earned freshman All-American honors in 2023. He was also a first-team All-ACC selection by the league, the AP and Phil Steele in 2025, along with being named a second-team All-American, per the AP, Steele and USA Today.
ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller ranks Woods as the No. 1 defensive tackle and the No. 42 overall prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft class, and Miller compared Woods to Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt, who was a first-round pick of the Packers in 2022 (28th overall) out of Georgia.
In his interview with Adams, Woods also discussed a number of other topics, including teams he’s linked to in the NFL, what he’s learned from watching Dexter Lawrence, and much more. He also showed off his vocals by singing “Amazing Grace”, which you can see at the eight-minute mark of the following video, along with the entire interview:
