Clemson Takes Down Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Jacob Jarrell’s three-run homer in a six-run first helped propel Clemson to a 7-3 win over Charlotte on Tuesday night at Truist Field. The win gives the Tigers a season sweep of the home-and-home midweek series. Clemson got a run-rule victory over the 49ers in February.

Jarrell went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. Bryce Clavon, Jackson Moore and the returning Tryston McCladdie all had multi-hit nights, while Moore drove in two runs, as did Luke Gaffney.

Ariston Veasey was another hero after he came on with the bases loaded and no outs in the eighth and struck out each of the next three hitters, stranding all three runners. In his 11 appearances this season, he has held the opposing team scoreless in 10 of those.

Danny Nelson threw a scoreless ninth to finish it off.

Justin LeGuernic pitched 2.2 innings of middle relief, while striking out five, to notch his second win (2-1) of the season.

Clemson (24-14) wasted no time flexing some muscle, as the Tigers batted around in the top of the first inning. Bryce Clavon laced the first pitch of the game into center for a leadoff single. McCladdie then walked on four pitches before Nate Savoie singled to load the bases. After Gaffney grounded to third, driving in the first run of the game, Jarrell followed with his team-leading 14th homer of the season, a three-run blast out to left, making it 4-0.

Tyler Lichtenberger followed by walking, then promptly stole second. Jason Fultz would then reach on an error and Moore drove both of them in on a double into the gap in right-center, giving Clemson an early 6-0 lead.

The Tigers added a little insurance in the fourth. After Savoie doubled with two outs, Gaffney drove him in with a single down the third base line, putting Clemson up 7-0.

Charlotte (18-18) was able to get on the board in the fifth. After Talan Bell issued a leadoff walk, pinch-hitter Walker Morgan doubled off the wall in dead center. Clavon misplayed the bounce off the wall, and the runner on first came all the way around to score. After Bell struck out the next hitter, Todd Hudson hit a 404-foot two-run homer out to right, ending Bell’s day, while cutting Clemson’s lead to 7-3.

McCladdie Returns

After suffering multiple facial fractures after getting hit in the face by a pitch during the Stanford series, McCladdie was back in the lineup on Tuesday. Originally, he was expected to miss multiple weeks, maybe even as much as a month, but he was out for less than 10 days. The utility man started in right field.

Moehler Continues to Ramp Up

Tuesday marked the fifth start for Dane Moehler, who missed all of the 2025 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. The right-hander tied a career high, pitching two innings. He also threw 30 pitches, which is the most he’s been allowed to throw to this point. Moehler allowed no runs on one hit, while walking one.

Sparse Crowd

The announced attendance was 1,774. That is the second-lowest number Charlotte has ever done at Truist Field, not including the COVID year.
