Texas QB Details Easter Weekend Visit

A Lone Star State quarterback made his first-ever visit to Clemson over Easter weekend.

2028 three-star Trey Wright (Frisco Lone Star, TX) made the trek to the Upstate to get his first look at Dabo Swinney’s program and the young signal caller said multiple things stood out.

“Honestly, just the whole campus,” Wright told The Clemson Insider. “Everything was really nice, the facilities and the stadium were crazy. But the biggest thing was just the feeling when I got there. You can feel the energy as soon as you step on campus.”

Wright got to spend a lot of time with Chad Morris, and that is all it took for the quarterback to realize how much of a straight shooter the Tigers’ offensive coordinator is.

“It was Easter weekend, so Coach Morris flew in, and I got about two hours with him,” Wright said. “We watched my film and some of Clemson’s spring game. His offense is very effective and actually really similar to what we run at my high school. I liked how he talked to me. He understands my game and what I do well, but he also kept it real about what I need to improve. I feel like I could grow a lot with a coach like him, along with Coach (Tajh) Boyd.”

Wright was a MaxPreps All-American after throwing for more than 4,000 yards as a sophomore. He was responsible for more than 5,800 total yards.

He already holds Power-4 offers from Missouri, SMU, TCU and Cincinnati. Baylor offered on Thursday. The Mustangs also got a spring visit and Wright will head to Kansas State this weekend. The rest of his schedule is still being worked out.

Wright knows Clemson likes to take things slower when it comes to the process. The Tigers won’t start handing out offers to players in his class until June.

“I respect it. They’re looking for the right kind of player and want to make sure it’s a good fit on both sides,” Wright said. “They really care about relationships, and that’s something me, my parents and my coaches all agree is important. The relationship I build with the coaches is going to be a big factor in where I end up. I’m only a sophomore, so the fact that they’re already building something with me means a lot.”

Wright is hoping to get back to Clemson this summer for camp. However, the young quarterback also excels on the hardwood and says his Nike EBYL summer sessions take up much of his time, making it a little more challenging to get back to South Carolina.

At the same time, that doesn’t make him want an offer from Clemson any less, and at some point, he;d love to add one to his ever-growing list.

“It would honestly mean everything. When you look at the history of quarterbacks they’ve had, Deshaun Watson, Trevor Lawrence, Tajh Boyd, those are guys who didn’t just win, they developed into elite players. That says a lot about the program and how they coach their quarterbacks. With how their offense fits my game, it just feels like a place where I could really grow and be pushed to get better every day.

“Plus, my mom is from North Carolina, and I was born there. I have a lot of family that would love to have us back that way.”
