CLEMSON – Clemson had another player taken in the 2026 NFL Draft on Saturday afternoon.
Defensive tackle DeMonte Capehart was selected No. 155 overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fifth round of the draft on Saturday.
Capehart’s selection makes him the eighth former Tiger taken in the draft, joining offensive tackle Blake Miller (No. 17, first round), Peter Woods (No. 29, first round), T.J. Parker (No. 35, second round), Avieon Terrell (No. 48, second round), wide receiver Antonio Williams (No. 71, third round), quarterback Cade Klubnik (No. 110, fourth round) and linebacker Wade Woodaz (123, fourth round).
In the pre-Draft process, the defensive lineman made waves by posting a 4.85-second 40-yard dash time, the fourth-fastest in his position in Indianapolis. At Clemson’s Pro Day a few weeks later, he notched a 1.72-second 10-yard dash and 33.5-inch vertical jump. After years of dealing with nagging injuries, Capehart feels he showed NFL scouts the athleticism he can bring to a team.
“I think I showed them that I’m more mobile,” Capehart said after Clemson’s Pro Day in March. “I can move. I’m not just a nose tackle. I think I can play the whole line is what I feel like I showcased today and throughout the combine, so that’s one of the main things I think I put on display.”
One of the older players in the draft, injuries derailed most of Capehart’s six-year career at Clemson. Though was forceful in the interior when he played, he did not play as much as Clemson would have liked.
Capehart was credited with 88 career tackles (13.5 for loss), including three sacks, five pass breakups and a forced fumble in 57 career games (12 starts) from 2020-25. He contributed on three ACC championship squads during his time at Clemson.
