With Clemson already having its 2027 quarterback on board, a lot of attention during the contact period is being paid to signal callers who are members of future recruiting classes.
Quarterbacks coach Tajh Boyd was in to see 2028 four-star Trace Hawkins (Calhoun, GA) on Thursday. Hawkins made two spring stops at Clemson, including the Spring Elite Day.
They say I am number one (on their board). Up top,” Hawkins recently told TCI. “That (offer) would be great. I have always liked Clemson football and running down that hill. That would be special.”
As a sophomore last season, Hawkins threw for 2,442 yards with 24 touchdowns to just three interceptions. He also had three rushing touchdowns.
Rivals ranks him No. 139 overall and No. 11 among all quarterbacks in the 2028 class.
Boyd also made stops in to check in on a couple of 2029 quarterbacks.
Boyd was also in to see Khayel Sam Fong-Talia (S. Forsyth, GA) on Thursday.
“I feel like I have a really strong relationship with him,” Sam Fong-Talia told TCI recently. “Just because he is definitely a players’ coach, and he’s been relatable throughout the whole process. He’s been through the exact same process I am going through right now. He is one who has made it. I feel like our conversations and his honest input are very valuable to me. That relationship is one of the closest I have with college coaches.”
Sam Fong-Talia, who was the quarterback at Dillon last season, has seen his recruitment explode in the past few days. Georgia Tech, Georgia, Notre Dame and Colorado have all offered in the past few days. South Carolina offered late last month.
On Tuesday, Boyd went and visited with Ty Snell (Allen, TX). Offensive coordinator Chad Morris had a short stint as the head coach of his high school.
The 6-foot-3 signal caller is still extremely early in the process, but already has more than two dozen offers. Florida State, Oregon, Ohio State, Texas A&M and Tennessee are some of the schools to have already pulled the trigger.
