Clemson Secures Commitment from Top OL Target

Clemson continues to stay hot on the recruiting trail

The Tigers have now landed their top offensive line target, with four-star Carter Jones (Poquoson, VA) announcing a commitment to Clemson on Monday. Jones chose the Tigers over Penn State, Georgia and Tennessee.

The 6-foot-6, 295-pounder already took official visits to Penn State and Georgia and was scheduled to be in Tennessee over the weekend. That visit did not take place.

Jones has long been on tap to attend the big official visit in Clemson this weekend. He was originally planning to announce a commitment on June 4, after all of his official visits.

The blue-chip talent has long been the top target for Matt Luke, picking up one of the opening offers after working out at camp last summer. He has visited more than half a dozen times since the beginning of his recruitment, with the most recent coming for the Elite Retreat back in March.

“They are super-high, they are at the top of my list,” Jones told TCI after that visit. “One of my favorite schools for sure. It is the culture, and it is Coach Luke’s development and ability to get players into the NFL. That is really big for me. The development piece mixed in with the culture. Because I will develop not only as a football player but also a man.”

Jones becomes the 11th member of Clemson’s 2027 class and the first offensive lineman. He is also the fourth player to announce in the past week, joining safety Jarrell Chandler, wideout Jamarin Simmons and running back Gary Walker, with all ranking as four-star talents.

247 ranks Jones as the 16th best interior lineman in the 2027 class, and the fifth-best player in the state of Virginia. His addition gives Clemson 11 verbal pledges in the class and puts the Tigers firmly inside the Top 15 of the Rivals team recruiting rankings.
