Clemson’s top offensive line target is announcing a little sooner than expected.
Four-star Carter Jones (Poquoson, VA) will reveal his college destination on Monday. He was originally slated to announce on June 4, after taking all of his official visits.
Jones has long been one of the Tigers’ top recruiting targets in the 2027 class, picking up one of the opening offers last summer. He has visited more than half a dozen times over the past two years, including last year’s season opener against LSU and the Elite Retreat back in March.
The 6-foot-6, 295-pounder kicked of his official visit slate early, going to Penn State and Georgia in April. He was scheduled to be at Tennessee this weekend, before wrapping up the slate by attending the Tigers’ big official visit weekend, May 29-31. The Tennessee visit is off. However, I still fully expect Jones to be at Clemson’s gathering in a little over a week. Take that how you will.
While Clemson may not have been one of the first schools to pull the trigger on an offer due to the program not offering recruits until they are set to start their junior years, it was Matt Luke who really first took notice of Jones’ abilities the first time he attended Dabo Swinney’s high school camp a couple of years ago.
“It is really impactful to me that he was one of the first,” Jones previously told TCI. “He is also a great coach. A great dude that really cares about that program and his players. That means a lot to me.”
Clemson has already secured commitments from three four-star talents this week, with safety Jarrell Chandler, running back Gary Walker and receiver Jamarin Simmons all announcing verbal pledges. The Tigers are still looking to land their first offensive line commitment in this class, and with this change of commitment dates, that wait might be about to end.
247 ranks Jones as the No. 16 interior linemen in the class and No. 5 in the state of Virginia.
