After a fairly quiet spring on the recruiting front, Clemson has caught fire.
The Tigers have added seven commitments since the beginning of last week, and with the big official visit gathering happening this week, it’s a fairly safe bet that momentum will continue.
Four-star safety Jarrell Chandler got things started when he announced on Monday of last week. Two more four-stars, running back Gary Walker and receiver Jamarin Simmons, both announced two days later. Four-star offensive lineman Carter Jones then announced on Memorial Day, with three-star tight end Carter Blackwell joining the festivities on Tuesday. Four-star Elijah Morrison committed on Thursday, becoming the second offensive lineman to commit this week. Three-star wideout and NFL legacy Julian Cromartie committed on Friday.
As good as the news has been over the past two weeks, it doesn’t end there. The Tigers are trending for several more targets set to be on hand for official visits this weekend.
Expect the Tigers to take at least one more offensive lineman. While several are slated to be in attendance this weekend, it is four-star Luke Starcevic who is trending heavily towards Clemson. Some schools are recruiting the 6-foot-5, 260-pounder as a tight end, but the Tigers are pursuing him as a tackle.
Starcevic picked up his offer in early May after an unofficial visit to campus. He has already taken an official visit to Kansas State, and the one this weekend to Clemson is expected to be his final one.
Three-star JiQuan Rogers is also trending in a positive direction. He is one of three defensive ends slated to be on hand this weekend. The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder picked up his offer after attending the spring elite day in April. Florida, Arkansas, Georgia Tech and Colorado are on his official visit schedule. Whether or not he makes it to all of those schools is yet to be determined.
Four-star Santana Harvey is another edge rusher who will be on campus this weekend. Harvey called Clemson his leader as recently as this week, but he’s been adamant about taking all of his officials and announcing in July. Notre Dame, Florida State and Georgia Tech are also scheduled to get officials. Harvey says Colorado could get added to the slate.
The Tigers have already landed one tight end, with Blackwell announcing this week, and they are in really good shape with the other player at the position set to be on hand this weekend. Nicholas Pollack is a pretty safe bet to become a member of the class at some point, and probably sooner rather than later. Cincinnati, Wake Forest, Samford and East Carolina are his other offers currently.
Pollack is the son of former Georgia standout David Pollack, who was a first-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals back in 2005. During his time in Athens, Pollack was named SEC Player of the Year two different times, while also earning SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors once. He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
With Clemson in a good spot with some of these recruits heading into the weekend, there is a really good chance of the Tigers’ recruiting momentum stretching into next week and maybe beyond.
